Professional Development Workshops Include Microsoft Excel, Principles of Marketing, Professional Communication, and Visual Communication

To keep your workforce strong and nimble, continuous learning is essential. 54% of today’s employees require significant upskilling, according to a report published by the World Economic Forum. To help employers get ahead of this trend, Granite State College is proud to offer a series of workshops to help address skills gaps within your organization.

Offered 100% online, Granite State College will offer a series of self-paced workshops this Summer and Fall focused on the following topics:

Each series is comprised of two affordable sessions (basic and intermediate). The Excel workshops will require just 15-20 hours per course over 3 weeks in the summer term and 6 weeks in the fall term. The Principles of Marketing, Visual Communication, and Professional Communication workshops will require just 25-40 hours each over 6 weeks in the fall term.

Participants will be able to learn at their own pace and will have access to:

  • Free course materials (software, textbooks, and other learning aids)
  • A dedicated instructor who will provide supportive feedback
  • Optional drop-in sessions via Zoom.

Upon completion of a course, participants will be awarded a digital badge to display on LinkedIn, a resume, or other related materials.

Degree-seeking students at Granite State College who successfully complete both Basics and Intermediate sessions will qualify for undergraduate credits from Granite State College. Normal credit evaluation procedures will apply, including existing college policies on prior learning assessment and transfer credit. Financial aid is not available.


Microsoft Excel (online course) – $99

Cost: $99 per course ($198 for both Basics and Intermediate courses)
Total Time Commitment: 15-20 hours per course
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Excel Basics is required prior to enrolling in Excel Intermediate.

Budget Management Basics (online course) – $199

Cost: $199 per course ($398 for both Basics and Intermediate courses)
Total Time Commitment: 25-40 hours per course
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Budget Management Basics is required prior to enrolling in Budget Management Intermediate.

In this course, student interact with budgetary tools and techniques to enhance their ability to communicate within a business’s operation and provide meaningful information for financial executive decision-making and negotiations. Students will have the opportunity to explain and describe the process of producing/designing a budget, as well as understand the interdependence of the impact of budget management.

Principles of Marketing (online course) – $199

Cost: $199 per course ($398 for both Basics and Intermediate courses)
Total Time Commitment: 25-40 hours per course
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Principles of Marketing Basics is required prior to enrolling in Principles of Marketing Intermediate.

This course helps individuals to develop the foundational marketing knowledge needed to help their organizations create and implement targeted and successful marketing campaigns. Topics include:

  • The role of a marketer and fundamental marketing concepts.
  • Marketing campaigns and how they can be used to help differentiate products and services.
  • Various methods of market research and how they are used to identify market opportunities.
  • Marketing ethics, consumerism, and social responsibility and their effects on marketing strategies.
  • Tactics for satisfying customer needs.

Visual Communication (online course) – $199

Dates: September 19 – October 28, 2022 (Basics) and October 31 – December 9, 2022 (Intermediate)
Cost: $199 per course ($398 for both Basics and Intermediate courses)

Total Time Commitment: 25-40 hours per course
Prerequisite: Successful completion of Visual Communication is required prior to enrolling in Visual Communication Intermediate.

This course explores how images and visual media are used to deliver and enhance messages. Topics include: 

  • Identifying how images communicate data, information, concepts, and arguments.
  • Locating sources and using retrieval systems for images and visual media.
  • Intellectual property, copyright, and fair use of images.
  • Producing visual media for a defined target audience and purpose
