Granite State College’s Alumni & Friends Scholarship for the 2022 Spring Term was recently awarded to three deserving students: Paula Burnett, Christina Langley, and Carly Lemire.
Applicants were asked to submit an essay about their experiences, motivations, goals, and any special circumstances related to their educational goals.
Paula decided to finish her degree after helping her children succeed in college and achieve their goals. After seeing their success, she decided it was time to focus on her career and personal goals. Paula, who is enrolled in the College’s B.S. in Psychology program, intends to continue her education by earning her master’s degree:
“My long-term goal is to become a licensed therapist to help those who have gone through trauma and need some guidance on how to move past this.”
A graduate of NHTI, Christina is currently pursuing her B.S. in Nursing (BSN) with Granite State College’s CCSNH transfer pathway. As a registered nurse, Christina said earning her BSN will help her pursue opportunities for growth and development in her field. Many adult students can relate to Christina as she balances her education, two jobs, and family responsibilities, including raising her three-year-old daughter. Discussing her career ambitions, Christina shared:
“I hope to someday become a nurse midwife, to bring beautiful and healthy babies into the world.”
Though Carly wasn’t sure what career path she would choose when she enrolled at Granite State College, she knew she wanted to help others. Carly, who’s enrolled in the B.S. in Human Services program, is still exploring her options but knows that she wants to work with children with challenging behaviors. Whatever she does next, Carly said she feels confident that her education will give her the tools she needs to take the next step:
“My education at Granite State College has opened my eyes to so many possibilities and, most importantly, my potential.”
The Alumni & Friends Scholarship is designed to provide financial assistance to eligible Granite State College students who are pursuing a bachelor’s degree.
