Granite State College has contracted with theNew Hampshire Division for Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) to provide education and training to foster and adoptive parents, residential child care staff, non-licensed relative caregivers, and other eligible community members. DCYF staff members are encouraged to join caregivers as a matter of best practice.

The Education and Training Partnership strives to enhance the quality of care for children in placement by providing competency based, accessible, and local training. Curricula is developed responsively, collaboratively, in a manner designed to maximize adult learning. Whether classroom based, workbook based or on-line; courses are delivered in a supportive atmosphere that recognizes participants' level of experience. The Education and Training Partnership embraces a system of quality improvement and program evaluation that is both proactive and comprehensive.

The Education and Training Partnership envisions a decrease in the number of placements experienced by New Hampshire children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse/neglect; as foster parents, adoptive parents, residential child care staff, and non-licensed relative caregivers; strive to achieve knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to provide healthy, supportive and stable homes to children and youth.

Through the Education and Training Partnership (E&TP), Granite State College offers four caregiver training programs, each having unique, eligibility requirements.

Training Programs

FACES is offered to individuals interested in providing foster/adoptive care and also to relative caregivers. It consists of a minimum of 21 hours of training that promotes a better understanding of the foster care system and working with children and families. This training assists in preparing people to be skilled caregivers and professional team members. Modules are primarily instructed by foster and adoptive parents.
  • (COT) Caregiver Ongoing Training:
This program provides competency-based education and training to NH licensed foster parents, eligible adoptive parents, non-licensed relative caregivers, residential childcare staff, and DCYF staff.
  • (RCCT) Residential Counselor Core Training:
This program is offered to residential counselors, in preparation for their work with children and youth in care in any of New Hampshire's residential facilities. RCCT is a 30-hour competency based training series, consisting of five modules, each six hours in length.
  • (RS) Relatively Speaking:
This program is offered to relative caregivers of children in care. The eligible relative caregiver is or will be taking care of, on a temporary or permanent basis, a child under the age of 18 who is related by blood, marriage, or adoption.
