Military Training

Approved Training Programs - Military

Military service includes a special dividend: college credit for training received while on active duty! The American Council on Education (ACE) has evaluated hundreds of military training programs for purposes of awarding college credit.

AARTS
The Army/American Council on Education Registry Transcript System (AARTS) is an automated transcripting system designed to help higher education institutions award soldiers and veterans credit for learning experiences gained while in the Army, Army National Guard, and Army Reserve.

Through AARTS, a soldier can receive a transcript of his or her military educational experiences, including those for which ACE has made credit recommendations, as evaluated and published in The Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services. This guide can be viewed online at www.militaryguides.acenet.edu.

Those eligible include enlisted members of the regular Army, Army National Guard, or Army Reserve with a basic active service date (BASD) of October 1, 1981 or later. Army National Guard soldiers must also have been on active rolls as of January 1993; Army Reservists must have been on active rolls as of April 1997. Visit the AARTS Web site at aarts.army.mil/ to obtain a free copy of your transcript and additional information.

SMART
The SMART transcript is available to all active duty sailors and marines, enlisted and officers, and reserve component personnel. Records are also available to sailors who separated or retired after January 1, 1999 and marines who separated or retired after July 1, 1999.

SMART transcripts include a list of all courses and occupations held during a student's military career (complete with ACE recommendations for college credit and SOCNAV/SOCMAR designation). The transcripts also include all completed coursework at regionally accredited universities and colleges while on active duty. To obtain a SMART transcript, contact your local Navy College Office or Marine Corps Education Center. Visit the SMART Website at smart.navy.mil/smart/welcome.do or www.chinfo.navy.mil/ for additional information.

CCAF
The Community College of the Air Force offers transcript service to all students who successfully completed CCAF credit-awarding courses. First time transcript requests must include a copy of the course completion certificate and a copy of your military or civil service identification card (front and back). If available, use the Air Force Form 2099, Request for CCAF Transcript, when ordering transcripts. Transfer requests in letter format are also acceptable.

Include in all transcript requests the following: Student's full name (former name if applicable), date of birth, SSAN, service component, current address, address where to send transcript, and the student's signature. Send requests to: CCAF/RR, 130 West Maxwell Blvd, Maxwell AFB, AL 36112-6613. Visit http://www.maxwell.af.mil/au/ccaf/transcripts.asp for additional information.

Note: Military training completed prior to the introduction of AARTS and SMART transcripts or the Community College of the Air Force will be recorded on a DD214 and may be evaluated for credit by the American Council on Education. Visit www.militaryguides.acenet.edu/ for additional information. For evaluation, a copy of your DD214 should accompany your application to a degree program, if your learning is not documented by AARTS, SMART, or CCAF.

Approved Training Programs - Non-Military

Non-College Sponsored Training
The American Council on Education, the University of the State of New York Board of Regents, and Granite State College have evaluated a large number of educational and training programs sponsored by business, industry, military, and federal and state agencies. If you've completed one of the programs evaluated by these sources and have a record of your successful completion, Granite State College will award credits for your learning. There are no fees assessed for credit awards from these sources. Credits are applied after admission to a degree program.

If you need additional information, Academic Advisors have access to listings of approved training programs published by ACE, NY Board of Regents, and Granite State College. Visit the American Council on Education National Guide (ACE) for credit recommendations for training programs at www.acenet.edu/NationalGuide/, University of the State of New York National Program on Non-collegiate Sponsored Instruction at www.nationalponsi.org , and review the Granite State College Institutional Validation list (below) to verify participating programs.
