Federal Work-Study Program (FWS)Federal work study encourages part-time employment related to a student’s course of study and/or career interests at GSC locations as well as community service while pursuing a post-secondary education. Students must demonstrate financial need from the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be eligible for this program. Work-Study Open Positions Merrimack Valley Daycare, Concord, NH: Email Mary Jane Wallner at MJWallner@Juno.com for the following positions: Child Care Assistant- Assists teachers in preschool classroom helping to supervise children ages 3 months to 10 years, assist with playtime, meals and preschool program. Child Care Literacy Project-Reading to preschool and school age children in small groups. Picking out books and projects that will enhance children’s reading skills. Woodside School, Concord, NH: Email Kathy Ellis at hockiemomof2@aol.com for the following positions: Child Care Assistant-Under the supervision of Lead Teachers and Teachers this position will supervise children indoors and outdoors, oversee daily snack and lunch routines, encourage the development of emerging self-help skills and assist in keeping the classroom organized. Teachers-This position is responsible for creating and implementing child-directed curriculum with goals and expectations that are developmentally appropriate and consistent with the Woodside philosophy. As a member of an educational team, all teachers are responsible for developing a cohesive teaching team. Students will conduct these activities along with literacy activities for parents and adults. Please note this position will start in Fall of 2010. This position includes working with different ages in their classes and with the before and after school population with an emphasis on integrated learning. Bearcamp Valley School and Children’s Center, Tamworth, NH: A family literacy facilitator is needed to work with the family literacy project that provides services to families with preschool age and elementary children. Upper Valley Lake Sunapee Regional Planning Commission, Lebanon, NH: The Commission receives numerous requests for information for analysis of CENSUS date and to provide materials for communities looking for the most appropriate land use ordinances or best practices. The student would assist planners in research necessary to complete projects and assist planners in conducting research necessary to complete planning documents. The student may have varying degrees of complexity depending on the topic which could range from transportation to hazard mitigation and depending on project deadlines. Research work may not be consistent and the student may also be asked by planners to help organize information and perform general office duties. Must have good research skills. The position will have oversight from a number of planning staff but student may at times need to work independently.
