Special Circumstances

Granite State College does recognize that a student and/or family’s true circumstances may not be accurately portrayed in their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Approved special circumstances allow the Office of Financial Aid to adjust a FAFSA accordingly which may increase financial aid eligibility.

Special circumstances may include:

• Loss of job
• Change of income
• Divorce
• Medical and/or dental expenses above the standard

If you feel circumstance(s) exist, complete and submit a Special Circumstance Request to the GSC Office of Financial Aid. Special Circumstances Requests include additional requirements and supporting documentation, so please follow the student checklist correctly to avoid incomplete requests and delayed decisions. The Office of Financial Aid may request additional information as needed before a decision is determined.

Every Special Circumstances Request is reviewed on a case by case basis. All approvals and denials are communicated through an updated/revised award letter.
