Citing Information - APA
The American Psychological Association (APA) style is often preferred when citing information in the field of psychology and other related social sciences such as education, political science, sociology. Samples of the most common citations are provided below. To determine the correct format for all reference citations, consult the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 5th Edition (2001). Each Granite State College Center has a copy of the APA manual. The APA style website at also has some tips for writers.

Format Quick Check - APA
- Print on standard 8 1/2 x 11 inch white paper using a standard font (such as Times Roman 12-pt)
- Use double-spacing throughout the document
- Use one-inch margins all around
- Indent first line of every paragraph (use tab)
- Identify each manuscript page (except for artwork) with the first two or three words from the title in the upper right-hand corner above or five spaces to the left of the page number
- Start the reference list on a new page
- Type the word Reference or References (if there are more than one) centered at the top of the page
- Double-space all reference entries using hanging indent format
- Present entries alphabetically on the reference page(s)
- Check with your instructor to determine if there are additional formatting instructions
