These requirements will be assessed and satisfied by reviewing the student’s transcript, completing additional course work, or can be proven through CLEP, DSST, or other post-secondary exams.
Praxis Exam Details

Praxis I
The State of NH requires all teachers to pass the Praxis I, unless they hold a master’s degree or have scored in the 50th percentile or above in the SAT after 2005, GRE, or ACT tests. Candidates who have not taken the Praxis I will be expected to complete the test within two terms of admission. The Praxis I is an 11th grade reading, writing and math test. Information, practice tests, practice guides and registration for the test is available at: www.ets.org/praxis.

Praxis II
In order to earn your certification, the State of NH requires all teachers to pass the Praxis II in their subject area: Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Mathematics, and specific content areas.
If no Praxis II is offered in your certification, there are two options to achieve Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) status and provide direct classroom instruction in a school:
- Earn 30 credit hours in a content area: math, English language arts, social studies, or science.
- Take the Praxis II exam for one of these content areas
Highly recommended: Many school districts now require this to achieve HQT status.
The Praxis II is typically taken near the completion of your program. For those who seek HQT status in a content area for General Special Education, you may take the Praxis II in your chosen area whenever you are ready.
