In the Granite State College's Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) with Teacher Certification Program:
You will complete the B.A. in a content area with teacher certification at the undergraduate level and certification programs listed in the table below
You will participate in a field-based program, working with three mentors throughout your plan of study:
Granite State College (GSC) professor
GSC Field-Placement Faculty for the field-experiences, and
School District/Program Mentor in the field-experience.
The Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators exam or acceptable alternative is required of all teachers in NH. Passing scores are required to register for EDU 622 Introduction to Field Experience and Program Requirements and to enter the clinical courses in the certification program. It is suggested that you take this early in your program. Testing prep resources are available on the resources page.
Upon successful completion of all program requirements, candidates will be recommended to the New Hampshire Department of Education for certification.
Develop a working understanding of current brain research and its implications for learning and teaching;
Develop the skills to access and utilize technology as a tool to enhance learning and teaching;
Develop an understanding of the use of formative and summative assessment for program design, monitoring student progress and evaluating teaching effectiveness;
Work with colleagues to observe, analyze and provide feedback on student progress and teaching effectiveness;
Utilize research methods, pedagogies and assessment strategies to teach for understanding and learning achievement, specific to content area.
