Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certificate

This certification program is designed to deliver an alternative route to certification for those who are already working as teachers or paraprofessionals at a New Hampshire approved field site, public or private. Currently we offer certification in the following areas:

  • General Special Education
  • Double certification in General Special Education and Elementary Education
  • Advanced Endorsement - Reading Specialist
  • Advanced Endorsement - Emotional Behavioral Disorder
  • Advanced Endorsement - Learning Disabilities
  • Advanced Endorsement - Mental Retardation

There are two distinct components to this program:

  • It is field-based, and
  • It is competency-based

Our program leads to certification from the New Hampshire Department of Education. It is open to qualified participants who have a bachelor's degree, a 3.0 GPA and passing PRAXIS scores. Paraeducators must have two years experience.

Field-based

  • Candidates must be working in an educational setting with students between the ages of 3 and 21. The setting must include students with disabilities.
  • For those working in Grades 5-12, an additional pre-requisite is a 30-hour content area major in English, Reading or Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Foreign Language, Civics and Government, Economics, Arts, History or Geography.
  • Candidates work with two mentors: one faculty advisor from our program and a mentor teacher from the local school district.
  • Coursework is completed in an independent study format within a structured curriculum.

All participants must be working in a New Hampshire-approved field site in order to complete the requirements for certification through the program.

Competency-based

Those who obtain certification through our program come to us with a variety of educational and employment experiences. However, to meet the requirements for certification, each person must complete a baccalaureate degree program. If you do not already possess a degree and 30 hours in a content area, please Contact Us.

This competency-based program allows for the individualization of programming within the framework of a structured curriculum.
