Self-Design

Our Self-Design program allows you to custom-tailor your degree to meet personal educational goals.

Focus Areas
Your focus area may include one of our Programs, one of our semi-structured models: Elementary Education and Criminal Justice, or your own unique area of study, such as Women's Studies, Community Planning, and Environmental Studies.

Self-Design Seminar
Once you have determined your focus, you begin with SDLR 550: Self-Design Seminar, a 2-credit course in which you design your program. You will research your area of interest and model programs, familiarize yourself with professional journals, and network with professionals. Your advisor will offer support as you develop your Self-Design degree. Your major is usually comprised of 10-12 courses that you select.

Degrees
We offer two Self-Design bachelor's degrees to choose from, depending on your focus area. Our Bachelor of Arts (BA) is for those interested in liberal arts, and our Bachelor of Science (BS) is for those with a specific professional focus. In addition, Granite State College can help you accelerate the completion of your Self-Design degree with Prior Learning Credits.
