Speech Language (A.A.)

The Associate in Arts (A.A.) with a concentration in Speech Language is designed for students who have a particular interest in seeking a career in the field of Speech Language Assisting. The Associate in Arts degree requires at least 64 semester hours of credit.

Students will:

  • Gain knowledge, field experience, and core technical skills within the field of Speech Language Assisting.
  • Meet professional standards in keeping with state and national guidelines for competency and ethics.

MATH 502 College Math 4 cr
COMM 550, 551, or 553 Communication Requirement 4 cr
INST 511 Role of the Speech Language Assistant 4 cr
INST 512 Survey of Communication Disorders 4 cr
INST 516 Clinical Practicum I 2 cr
Middle Course Group Taken in the middle of the degree program.
CMPL 511 Software Tools 4 cr
PSY 521 Language Acquisition 4 cr
INST 513 Anatomy and Physiology of Speech and Hearing 4 cr
INST 514 Articulation and Phonological Disorders 4 cr
INST 515 Introduction to Audiology and Aural Rehabilitation 4 cr
INST 516A, 516B, 516C Clinical Practicum II, III, and IV 6 cr
Anytime Courses Choose courses of interest in these areas at any time to fill openings in your degree program.
Arts and Culture Requirement 4 cr
Literature and Ideas Requirement 4 cr
History and Politics Requirement 4 cr
Social Science Requirement 4 cr
Science Requirement (Choose 1) 4 cr
General Electives Choose additional courses to reach required total of 64 credits.
