Granite State College Awards Alumni Learner Association Scholarships and Maynard Heckel Scholarship
Nine students represent Manchester, Portsmouth, Rochester, Claremont and Conway

Concord, NH – Members of the Granite State College Alumni Learner Association (ALA) Board of Directors have awarded this year’s ALA Merit Scholarships and the 2010 Maynard Heckel Award to a select group of outstanding Granite State students in recognition of their academic accomplishments and commitment to community leadership.

ALA Merit Scholarships of $1,000 were awarded to eight students who exemplify outstanding academic performance, embrace a thoughtful career path and demonstrate a dedication to achieving lifelong goals.

Recipients include Ann Bowden, Portsmouth; Tami Provost, Rochester; Frances Robinson, Claremont; Marie-Laure Lovell, Claremont; Brooke Rines, Conway; Luciane Koban, Claremont; Erika Lincoln, Rochester; and Erica Jones, Portsmouth.

The winner of the Maynard Heckel Award and a $500 scholarship in recognition of her ongoing leadership and commitment to the local and statewide community is Anne DuBois of Manchester.

The awards were presented on May 16 at a ceremony at the Grappone Center in Concord.

“The awarding of these scholarships is an honor and a privilege that the board very much enjoys,” said Carrie Landry, Chair of the ALA Board of Directors. “Having undertaken similar non-traditional college education paths themselves, the Board understands the commitment, challenge and pride that these students put into their education, personal and professional lives. They represent the overall student body and alumni community of Granite State College extremely well. Granite State College is very proud of these scholarship recipients."

Comprised of graduates of Granite State College, the Alumni Learner Association works together with current students, faculty and staff to promote the College in the community and throughout the state. The ALA has awarded over $100,000 in scholarships to deserving Granite State College students since 1990. Its scholarship program is funded through donations made by the more than 8,000 Granite State College graduates.
