Dr. Karol LaCroix, President of Granite State College, to present
Higher Education Industry Forecast at statewide event
Manchester, NH – Dr. Karol A. LaCroix, president of Granite State College (GSC) will present the industry forecast for higher education on Thursday, January 21, at Business NH Magazine's annual Industry Forecast breakfast, offering insights into the state of higher education in New Hampshire and what's to come in 2010. Dr. LaCroix's forecast will be presented along with updates from five other industries including banking, tourism, energy and utilities, real estate and health and wellness.
Dr. LaCroix is chairman of the New Hampshire College and University Council, which is sponsoring the higher education industry forecast, along with Campus Compact for New Hampshire. The January 21 event will be held at SERESC in Bedford, beginning at 7:30 a.m.
Dr. LaCroix will review a variety of opportunities and challenges facing New Hampshire higher education as well as how the economy has affected the industry as a whole.
"I'm looking forward to being part of this exciting event," said Dr. LaCroix. "Particularly because I think 2010 will present a number of unique opportunities for higher education, our institutions and students."
Since being named president of Granite State College (GSC) in 2004, Dr. LaCroix has lead the transformation of the institution from the College of Lifelong Learning to a leading provider of classroom and online learning for traditional and non-traditional age students across the state. GSC has four regional centers across the state, in Conway, Claremont, Concord and Rochester, along with five educational sites located in Berlin, Manchester, Littleton, Portsmouth and Lebanon.
Prior to her leadership position at GSC, Karol served as Dean of the University of New Hampshire Manchester from 1996 to 2004 and in various leadership and faculty positions at the University of New Hampshire Durham. She most recently won the Excellence in Public Service Award, bestowed by the New Hampshire Business Review, for her efforts to "bring learners of all ages in the classroom and the classroom to learners."
Dr. LaCroix serves as a board member of the Concord Chamber of Commerce and New Hampshire Public Television. Governor Lynch also named Dr. LaCroix as a member of the Executive Branch Ethics Committee.
Granite State College is one of four University System of New Hampshire institutions and a leader in online education. GSC offers associate and bachelor degrees, post-baccalaureate programs for teacher education and transfer opportunities and seeks to empower and educate students across the state.
