CONBOY TO RECEIVE SCHOLARSHIP
April 4, 2009 -CONCORD- The Granite State College Alumni Learner Association recently awarded Susan Conboy of Alton Bay a $1,000 merit scholarship in recognition of her outstanding academic achievement, thoughtful career path and dedication to achieving lifelong goals.
Conboy, a licensed alcohol and other drug counselor, is currently working toward her Bachelor of Science degree in Behavioral Science at Granite State College. In addition to maintaining a 3.83 grade point average, Conboy works full time as program director of the Multiple Offender Program at the State of New Hampshire Multiple Offender Intervention Detention Center in Laconia.
“I strongly believe that learning should be a lifelong pursuit and I have learned and applied so much from the classes I have taken at Granite State College,” said Conboy. “This scholarship will help me achieve my goal of completing my bachelor's degree, and then continuing my education in a master's degree program.”
Conboy, who will complete her degree at Granite State College in 2010 before pursuing a graduate degree in mental health counseling, is one of ten deserving Granite State College students selected this year by the ALA Board to receive an ALA Merit Scholarship.
“The awarding of these scholarships is truly an honor and a privilege that the board thoroughly enjoys,” said John Paine, Chairman of the ALA Board of Directors. “Having the opportunity to actually make a difference in the life of a Granite State College learner is remarkable.”
More than $110,000 in scholarships has been awarded by the ALA to deserving Granite State College students since 1990. Its scholarship program is funded by donations made by graduates of Granite State College.
In addition to their fundraising efforts, the Granite State College ALA also works together with current Granite State College students, faculty and staff to promote the College in the community and throughout the state and to support the institution’s educational mission.
