GSC Welcomes New Director for the MS in Leadership Program
Concord, NH – Upon the launch of its second graduate degree program, Granite State College (GSC) has appointed Dr. Johnna Herrick-Phelps as Program Director for the Master of Science in Leadership.
Herrick-Phelps will work collaboratively with the Dean of Graduate Studies and her colleagues in the Project Management master’s program to enhance and grow the Office of Graduate Studies, launched in 2011.
“In today’s world, effective leadership skills are essential to the success of an organization. Leadership is no longer about getting others to follow you, but instead is about building, enhancing and supporting leadership in everyone around you,” stated Herrick-Phelps.
Dr. Herrick-Phelps’ teaching philosophy is learner-oriented and mixes instructional approaches in accordance with each teaching and learning situation. She believes exposing learners to an array of instructional strategies and contexts contributes to expanding students’ learning potential and helps to open them to new ways of thinking.
Prior to joining the college, Herrick-Phelps was principal of JH Phelps & Associates Consulting for seventeen years, where her interests and consulting practices centered around women in the workplace, issues of gender and diversity, culture change, and executive coaching. She is the author “Seen But Not Heard - The Implemented Strategies and Situational Factors Executive Women Use to be Heard by their Male Colleagues in the Workplace,” a study that examines strategies and the influential situational factors that impact how executive women are heard by their male colleagues in the workplace.
Herrick-Phelps holds an M.S. in Organizational Management and Leadership from Springfield College, an M.A. in Human Development, and a Ph.D. in Human and Organizational Development Systems from Fielding Graduate University.
She resides in Littleton, NH, with her husband and daughter.
