Granite State College Dean Appointed by Governor to Early Childhood Advisory Council
 
Concord, NH – New Hampshire Governor John Lynch has appointed a member of the Granite State College leadership team to an Advisory Council focused on the healthy development and education of New Hampshire children.
 
Tessa McDonnell, Dean of Students and External Engagement, will serve on the state’s Early Childhood Advisory Council as the representative from the University System of New Hampshire. The council will contain about 20 members and, per Executive Order, undertake:
 
  • The strengthening of  New Hampshire’s early childhood infrastructure;
  • Coordination of the development and implementation of an integrated and comprehensive strategic plan for early childhood in New Hampshire;
  • The development of a framework to evaluate the Council’s outcomes/impacts and the progress of New Hampshire’s young children and their families; and
  • The fostering of public awareness of, promoting access to and building commitment for quality early childhood programs and services.
 
McDonnell earned a Bachelor’s Degree in the Social Sciences from the SUNY – Potsdam and a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of New Hampshire in 1972. She worked in Head Start, preschools and elementary schools for ten years before transitioning to teaching at the college level, when Granite State College was known as the College for Lifelong Learning. Today, in her role as Dean of Students and External Engagement, McDonnell is responsible for creating partnerships with external agencies, businesses, community colleges and other organizations to deliver training and academic learning opportunities for workforce and professional development.
