River Valley Community College and Granite State College Partner to Offer Affordable Pathways to Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree
Granite State College (GSC) and River Valley Community College (RVCC) hosted a ceremony on June 3, 2014, at 4:00 p.m. at Granite State College in Concord to celebrate the signing of a memorandum of agreement and co-location of River Valley Community College on-site at GSC’s Claremont campus. This event marked the beginning of a new partnership between the colleges that offers students an affordable pathway to bachelor’s and master’s degree programs.
Paul Holloway, Chair of the Community College System of New Hampshire (CCSNH) Board of Trustees, and Todd Leach, Chancellor of the University System of New Hampshire (USNH), spoke to the significance of this initiative and other enhanced collaborations between the community college and university systems. Also addressing the importance of this partnership to the city of Claremont were Mayor James Neilsen, IV and City Manager Guy Santagate.
RVCC President Alicia Harvey-Smith said “This will provide our students a unique and valuable opportunity to engage in a seamless learning process from the associate degree level through the master’s degree level. It’s a win-win for all involved, River Valley Community College, Granite State College, the City of Claremont and most importantly our students who will benefit from quality academic instruction from two excellent academic institutions, and receive an economic benefit by reducing educational debt.”
There are more than 25 bachelor’s degree programs and three master’s programs at GSC. The academic offerings available to the RVCC students at GSC Claremont have been selected through an analysis of the current RVCC student body and recent graduates, so that each program provides maximum opportunity and career mobility for students.
“Through our partnership, our goal is to develop more programs that will both empower students to build thriving careers and contribute to the areas of New Hampshire’s workforce that can benefit from employees who have achieved a bachelor’s or master’s degree,” said Roxanne M. Gonzales, President of Granite State College.
The co-location of River Valley Community College at the GSC Claremont campus recognizes students desire to remain a part of the RVCC community and pursue a bachelor’s degree. This partnership serves the need to find efficiencies that improve workforce alignment, degree completion, and resource allocation.
The partnership with River Valley Community College marks the fourth USNH/CCSNH collaboration for Granite State College. Similar partnerships exist at Nashua Community College, Manchester Community College and Great Bay Community College. Granite State College Summer courses begin on July 5, 2014, and registration for the Fall term begins on July 8, 2014. To learn more, please visit granite.edu/RVCC.
