SHEILA-TAYLOR KING APPOINTED DEAN OF ACADEMIC AFFAIRS FOR GRANITE STATE COLLEGE
September 28, 2007 – Concord, NH – Dr. Sheila Taylor-King, academic dean of Urban College of Boston, has been appointed as dean of Academic Affairs at Granite State College. Taylor-King began serving as academic dean at the beginning of September. At Urban College of Boston, a two-year inner-city college primarily serving an economically disadvantaged student body, Taylor-King oversaw all aspects of academic administration including recruiting and evaluating faculty, administering and assessing curricula, ensuring conditions that facilitate student success; collaborating with off-campus organizations, and representing Urban College to the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education on matters pertaining to academic programming. Taylor-King also served as the college’s liaison to the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) including the preparation for their recent accreditation visit. “Dr. Taylor-King has a strong background in the areas of adult learning, teacher education, and diversity. She will be a wonderful addition to our academic affairs team. I look forward to her contributions to the College in the coming years,” said Karol LaCroix, President of Granite State College. Taylor-King’s service and scholarship activities demonstrate her commitment to education and student achievement. Her funded projects include topics such as Child Care Economic Opportunity Project, Classroom Connections: A Hispanic/Latino Service Partnership, and Professional Enrichment in Early Childhood Education. She is published in several journals and has presented at numerous conferences. Taylor-King is currently a member of the board of directors of the American Association of University Administrators. “I look forward to coming to Granite State College and working with the adult student population in a statewide model,” says Dr. Taylor-King. Prior to her position at Urban College Taylor-King was the director of doctoral programs at D’Youville College in Buffalo, NY; adjunct professor of education and reading at SUNY Buffalo; assistant professor of education at the University of Wyoming in Laramie; and director of the Literacy Tutorial Project for Homeless Families at Arkansas State University. Taylor-King received her doctor of education in 2001 from the University of Wyoming, master of science in education in 1993 from Arkansas State University, and bachelor of science degree in elementary education in 1992 from Arkansas State University.
