ROMEO RECEIVES MERIT SCHOLARSHIP

CONCORD- The Granite State College Alumni Learner Association recently awarded Deidre Romeo of Franklin a $1,000 merit scholarship in recognition of her outstanding academic achievement, thoughtful career path and dedication to achieving lifelong goals.
Romeo is currently working toward her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management with a minor in human resources and concentration in communications at Granite State College.  In addition to maintaining a 3.93 grade point average, Romeo works fulltime as an executive assistant to the president of Aavid Thermalloy, LLC in Concord.  In the past Romeo has volunteered with the Franklin Career Academy PTO, Heritage United Way and local youth sports organizations.

“The academic coursework I have completed at Granite State College has contributed significantly to my understanding of business practices, strategies and theories I now apply daily in my current position,” said Romeo.  “Thanks to this scholarship I can stay on track and graduate in June of 2010.  This scholarship means everything to me.”

Romeo is one of ten deserving Granite State College students selected this year by the ALA Board to receive an ALA Merit Scholarship,
“The awarding of these scholarships is truly an honor and a privilege that the board thoroughly enjoys,” said John Paine, Chairman of the ALA Board of Directors.  “Having the opportunity to actually make a difference in the life of a Granite State College learner is remarkable.”

More than $110,000 in scholarships has been awarded by the ALA to deserving Granite State College students since 1990.  Its scholarship program is funded by donations made by graduates of Granite State College.

In addition to their fund raising efforts, the Granite State College ALA also works together with current Granite State College students, faculty and staff to promote the College in the community and throughout the state and to support the institution’s educational mission.
